Monsoon may be a refreshing respite from smouldering summer but it also brings gloominess in its wake. Doubtless, monsoon is loved by the young at heart, all those who love nothing more than getting drenched in the rain. It is the favourite season of those who love sitting idly besides the large window with a cup of steaming tea and looking at the shiny drops. This happiness dispels all the gloom and boredom of the season. Home décor is one aspect, however, to which we don’t give much thought. The wet clothes hanging all around, muddy footprints and dark interiors contribute to intensifying the mood of gloom.
However, there is no reason why you should let the gloom set in. Take a cue from the tips mentioned below and give you’re a joyful and invigorating monsoon makeover.
Dolling up the interiors during monsoon entails keeping in mind the mood of the season; the all-important is to highlight the sublimity of the season and add positive vibes to home décor. It is also important to keep in mind the comfort level of family members, says Rishabh Kapoor, director of design deconstruct.
Cut it out
One needs to replace heavy dark curtains ideal for summer with something preferably light and bright in colour. Given the ambience of monsoon, bright curtains are the ones to go for. One should replace the thin bed coverings with blankets as the monsoon weather and blankets are a perfect combination. If you have decorative plants outdoors, try shifting them inside to bring nature into your living room.
Add-on
Try making use of an oil diffuser to add a beautiful aroma. These oil diffusers are compact, and a variety of different fragrant oils are available depending on your choice and preferred aroma. The peaceful and calming sound of a wind chime on a breezy monsoon evening can set the mood for anyone who is feeling dull and tired. DIY bottle lamps and fairy lights are also an excellent choice to add a bit of décor for the season.
Lighten up
If you still have dull looking lights and lamps in your home, replace them immediately. With the new LED lamps, decorative lightings have become brighter and more reliable. Plus, attractive lights add flair to your interiors. With a lot of designs to choose from, you can select your interior lights to match either a contemporary house or a traditional one.
Bhubaneswar-based interior designer Shruti Mukim says that décor is one of the easiest things that can lift one’s mood and transform the living space into a happy heaven, even while it is all gloomy outdoors.
She adds, “Monsoon means bright colours and a lot of happiness. It’s time to lift your mood by changing the colours of your home.” The designer has the following tips to offer:
Colour says it all

designsColour has always been a complete solution to spice things up around any type of bedroom of any shape. If your square-sized bedroom is surrounded by white or beige walls, they might give it an unfinished and gloomy look. Try giving these walls a splash of cool colours for a peaceful and tranquil feel. Incorporate colours like sky blue or mint green for an attractive appearance and if you wish to create a cosier atmosphere opt for a warm colour like lemon or peach. If you have a square-shaped bedroom which is large, go for deeper and vibrant shades on the walls.
The fragrance
Rains mean more moisture that leaves a smell all over your home. Use candles and mild fragrant sticks to make your room smell fresh and inviting. The fragrance will stave off the blues. Place the aromatic candles on your corner tables or coffee tables and light them up
during the evening at a time when power cuts are  disturbingly frequent.
