Nishchintakoili: In a tragic incident, two toddlers drowned in a pond at Ramakrushnapur village under this block in Cuttack district Saturday.
The victims were identified as Kameshwar, 2, son of Dilip Kumar Sahu of Ramakrushnapur village under Nishchintakoili block, and Bhagyalaxmi, 3, daughter of Ballabh Sahu of Ostapur village in Umar panchayat of Mahanga block.
Reports said Ballabh’s wife, Madhusmita, had brought her daughter, Bhagyalaxmi, to visit her brother Dilip’s house at Ramakrushnapur village.
The incident occurred when the family members were inside while Kameshwar and Bhagyalaxmi were playing near the house.
Meanwhile, the children wandered towards a nearby pond while playing, fell into the water and drowned. A local resident noticed the girl floating and alerted the families.
Family members rushed to the spot and pulled Bhagyalaxmi from the water and rescued Kameshwar after an extensive search.
They rushed the two kids to the Nishchintakoili Community Health Centre, where doctors pronounced the two dead. Police sent the bodies for a post-mortem and launched an investigation.
