Gopalpur: A 26-year-old youth was killed Saturday afternoon after he lay down in front of a moving truck on National Highway 16 near the Gopalpur overbridge in Ganjam district, police said.
The victim was identified as S Papeya of Digipur village under Gopalpur police limits.
Reports said that Papeya left home on his motorcycle, saying he was heading to Berhampur for some work.
After parking his bike near the overbridge, he suddenly lay down in front of an approaching truck.
The vehicle ran over him, killing him instantly due to excessive bleeding. Gopalpur police reached the spot, sent the body to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for post-mortem.
The body was later handed over to the family members.
