Sambalpur: Highlighting the crucial role of youth in shaping India’s future, Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, Saturday urged graduating students of Sambalpur University to be ethical, socially responsible, and globally competent citizens.
He made the remarks while addressing the University’s 35th Convocation. “Each of you carries the torch to drive India forward and realise the dream of a Viksit Bharat,” the Governor said, acknowledging that today’s achievements reflect years of hard work, teacher guidance, and family support.
He added that convocation day is not just a ceremony but a milestone marking the start of a new journey of responsibility and service.
Reflecting on Sambalpur University’s legacy since 1967, Kambhampati lauded its role in nurturing generations of young minds and driving social and economic change in Western Odisha and beyond.
“From its serene Jyoti Vihar campus, the University has blended academic excellence with character-building and a spirit of service,” he said, adding that it has recently strengthened academics, research, and innovation while upholding excellence and social responsibility.
He emphasised that education must extend beyond academics, noting, “Knowledge without character cannot build a just and prosperous nation.”
The Governor welcomed Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the ceremony’s chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, Pradhan said, “Universities should enhance the happiness, prosperity, and well-being of Odisha’s people and prioritise teaching in the mother tongue.”
He added that Rs 157 crore has been sanctioned for infrastructure and research at Sambalpur University, underscoring the state’s commitment to strengthening higher education.
