Chandbali: A 500-ft-long ship anchor chain was unearthed Wednesday from beneath the ground during an eviction drive in this historic port town of Chandbali in Bhadrak district.
The recovery was made when an earthmoving machine was demolishing encroachments by roadside shops near the old state port office.
The chain was later shifted to the tehsildar’s office premises. Tehsildar Bhabatosh Mallik and police officials were present at the site during the operation. A large crowd of curious locals was seen having a glimpse of the finding.

Residents and history enthusiasts said Chandbali was once a flourishing trading port, and the recovered chain likely belonged to a large merchant vessel.
They believe more ship parts, anchors, and equipment might be buried in the area.
