Boinda: Forest officials here arrested two men Saturday for their alleged involvement in ivory smuggling in Angul district.
The accused, identified as Muna Behera of Kudasahi village under Thakurgarh police station and Bijay Singh of Bhangamunda village, were taken into custody by forest officials from Keonjhar and Dhandatopa.
According to sources, the ivory was being smuggled from the Dhandatopa area to Keonjhar.
Authorities intercepted them and recovered the elephant tusks. Muna and Bijay were arrested at the scene.
Further investigation is underway to identify other possible accomplices and the network involved in the illegal ivory trade.
