Koraput: Tension continues to simmer in the disputed Kotia region as villagers of Matalamba have raised serious allegations against the Odisha government, claiming, while the infrastructure projects, such as road construction, are being highlighted by the government, the actual livelihood concerns of the people remain largely unaddressed.
Villagers expressed their frustration, stating that this negligence is enabling Andhra Pradesh to strengthen its presence in the area.
The Odisha government has repeatedly claimed that development work is underway in Kotia Panchayat. However, villagers argue that these claims do not reflect ground realities.
They pointed out that despite years of promises, essential livelihood needs like sustainable employment, access to welfare schemes, and basic services have not reached many households.
This gap, they say, is pushing residents to depend on Andhra Pradesh, which is aggressively implementing various schemes and enrolling Kotia residents in its programs.
Villagers allege that Andhra functionaries frequently visit remote villages, offering benefits and ensuring community engagement steps that the Odisha administration has failed to match.
This, they believe, is gradually influencing local residents and strengthening Andhra’s administrative hold. Village resident Rukuni Jani, expressing resentment over the situation, said, “Roads alone will not feed our families.
The Odisha government talks about development, but we still struggle for regular work, healthcare support, and welfare schemes.
Meanwhile, Andhra officials come to our doorstep and include us in their programs. How long can the government ignore our problems?”
Another villager, Kora Pangi, expressed concern about the weakening connection between the people and the Koraput administration, “For years, we have been requesting livelihood support, farming assistance, job schemes, and proper ration distribution.
But our voices are not heard. Andhra is taking advantage of this neglect. If Odisha does not act now, people will naturally lean toward whoever supports them.”
Local residents urged the Odisha government to take immediate, concrete steps to address these gaps, warning that delayed action may further complicate the already sensitive inter-state issue.
They demanded regular monitoring, direct communication from district off cials, and quick implementation of livelihood programs to restore trust among the people of Kotia.
As the situation unfolds, villagers await a strong and urgent response from the administration.
