Cuttack: The Orissa High Court Tuesday upheld the decision of the state government to scrap appointment of 169 revenue inspectors (RIs), assistant revenue inspectors (ARIs) and amins in Bolangir district in 2013.
A division bench comprising Justices Sanju Panda and SN Prasad quashed a verdict of Orissa Administrative Tribunal (OAT) on the issue.
Bolangir administration had appointed 169 RIs, ARIs and amins in 2013. However, several irregularities in the appointment came to the fore. It was alleged that answer papers of the recruitment examinations were kept at the residence of the district collector in violation of the norms.
The state government had initiated a Crime Branch investigation into the recruitment scam. Police had also arrested the then Bolangir collector Debraj Mishra and four other officials after finding their complicity in the scam.
Subsequently, the state government had scrapped the appointment of 169 RIs, ARIs and amins in March last year. Challenging the state government’s decision petitioners Prasanta Kumar Sahu and others had filed a case in OAT. The tribunal had quashed the state government decision to annul the appointments.
Challenging the OAT verdict, the state government had moved the High Court in this
connection.
