Bhubaneswar: There are no suspected Nipah virus cases in the state, said Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Minister Mukesh Mahaling Friday, while chairing a high-level review meeting following the detection of such cases in West Bengal.
The meeting was attended by Health Department Commissioner-cum-Secretary Ashwathi S, Public Health Director Nilakantha Mishra, Health Services Director Pradeep Kumar Guru, and Medical Education and Training Director Santosh Kumar Mishra.
Keeping in mind the development in West Bengal, the Odisha government has issued an alert for districts bordering the state.
At the meeting, the authorities concerned were instructed to promptly investigate and report any suspected cases of Nipah virus, while ensuring hospitals are equipped with sufficient medicines, PPE kits, and medical equipment.
Mahaling emphasised that at present, no suspected Nipah virus cases have been reported in Odisha.
He assured that the state is maintaining full vigilance and closely monitoring the situation.
“The Health and Family Welfare department is fully prepared,” the Minister said and urged the public not to panic.
Mahaling also highlighted the importance of public awareness.
The meeting focused on the state’s current situation, vigilance measures, disease surveillance, sample testing, isolation protocols, and treatment facilities.
