Bhubaneswar: The sick plant of the Fertilizer Corporation of India’s in Talcher will be revived and made operational by mid 2021, Chief Secretary AP Padhi said here Thursday. The plant will produce urea.
Padhi reviewed the progress made on revival of the fertilizer unit at Secretariat where Chief Executive Officer of Talcher Fertilizers Limited (TFL) JS Salni was also present.
“The tender process has been started for construction of the plant. The state government will provide all necessary support for land acquisitions, supply of water and electricity and other requirement for infrastructure development for the project,” Padhi told media persons.
The union ministry of chemicals and fertilizers has sought goods and service tax (GST) on the purchase of goods and concession on electricity duty on power generation from the state government for the plant, sources said.
The project is being revived with an investment of Rs 8,000 crore by a consortium comprising FCI, GAIL, Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd and Coal India Ltd.
This would be the first fertilizer plant in the country to operate on coal gasification technology. Approximately 25 megawatts (MW) of power is required for running the project.
