New Delhi: Millions of people are set to observe Earth Hour Saturday evening, as the annual initiative marks its 20th anniversary.
India is expected to witness one of its largest-ever participations in the green movement, as it will be in switch-off mode from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm Saturday.
From north to south, east to west, some of the country’s most iconic monuments, heritage sites, and government buildings will switch off their lights in a powerful show of solidarity for the planet, according to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF)-India, according to reports.
The national capital, Delhi, will witness participation from prominent sites such as Akshardham, India Gate, Qutub Minar, Red Fort, Humayun’s Tomb, Jantar Mantar, and Safdarjung Tomb, among others.
This year’s theme, “Give an Hour for Earth,” calls on people to switch off their lights for 60 minutes, offering the planet a symbolic pause and a reminder of calm and darkness.
Observed every last Saturday of March since 2007, Earth Hour was launched by WWF to raise awareness about climate change.
It has since grown into one of the world’s largest environmental movements, spanning over 190 countries and engaging billions.
