Bhubaneswar: Two persons were arrested in connection with an illegal LPG decanting operation that had led to an explosion and subsequent fire March 21, leaving one person critically injured near Ananda Van in Kalinga Nagar under Bharatpur Police Station limits, police informed Sunday.
According to reports, illegal decanting of LPG from a standard 14-kg domestic cylinder to smaller cylinders was being carried out without safety measures when a sudden explosion triggered a fire.
One person sustained severe burn injuries and was immediately shifted to Hi-Tech Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
Fire services personnel rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control, preventing further damage.
During the investigation, police found that the main accused, Bibhu Prasad Bhuyan (37), had rented the shop under the guise of running an electrical repair unit and was illegally operating the LPG decanting business.
The injured person was in his shop.
Another accused, Sukanta Behera (37), allegedly supplied LPG cylinders illegally from a local gas agency, facilitating the operation.
Both accused were arrested near Aiginia Market and later forwarded to court.
Further investigation is underway, police added.
