Since our inception in 2015, Kalinga Biomedical has grown from a local partnership firm into one of Odisha’s leading medical equipment suppliers. Our rapid growth has been driven by a strong focus on technological innovation and affordable accessibility. By offering the best equipment at competitive prices, we have enabled mid-sized hospitals and rural clinics to upgrade their infrastructure. We provide turnkey solutions for modular ICUs, modern pathology labs, radiology equipment, and modular OT setups, helping health care providers deliver better and more efficient services.

How do you differentiate your offerings in a competitive diagnostic and critical care equipment industry?

We started Kalinga Bio Medical with a vision to provide quality medical equipment at affordable prices. Being led by a team of professional biomedical engineers, we have been able to outperform traditional suppliers who often lack core technical expertise. Our strong understanding of human anatomy, combined with medical electronics, enables us to deliver effective, customised solutions to our clients, including doctors and hospital owners.

What challenges does the medical equipment trading and distribution industry face today, such as regulatory compliance or pricing pressures?

In terms of regulatory compliance, we face several challenges, particularly in government procurements such as AIIMS, OSMCL, and GeM. These include strict requirements like USFDA approvals, Make in India clauses, and CDSCO licensing. Given the critical nature of healthcare, medical equipment should always be handled by trained professionals to ensure patient safety. On the pricing front, recent GST revisions have made equipment more affordable, with tax rates reduced from 18% to 5%.

Has post-pandemic healthcare infrastructure growth boosted demand for critical care and home care products?

Yes, the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the critical importance of healthcare and home care products such as oxygen concentrators, masks, and pulse oximeters. It created unprecedented demand and awareness around these essential medical devices. During this period, many non-medical companies also entered the sector, importing and supplying such products, and some successfully evolved into established medical device businesses by adapting quickly to market needs and opportunities.

What is your long-term vision — deeper penetration within Odisha or expansion into other states?

My long-term vision is to promote and provide ‘Make in Odisha’ medical devices to people across Odisha as well as other states of the country, ensuring accessibility, affordability, and quality healthcare solutions.

As an entrepreneur, what motivated you to enter this field, and what advice would you share with those aspiring to build a successful career in this industry?

While working with distributor firms and MNCs, I observed a lack of professionalism in the medical equipment sector, where customers often did not receive proper knowledge about the machines they invested in. This motivated me to bridge that gap using my biomedical engineering expertise and deliver meaningful, effective solutions that impact lives. My advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is that if you are passionate about medical devices and human anatomy, this field offers immense potential to build something impactful and successful.
