Bhubaneswar: Amid reports of irregularities at various petrol pumps across the state, the state government mopped up fine worth Rs 1.45 lakh from petrol pumps and issued warning notice to 26 petrol pumps. The state government conducted raids as part of a special enforcement drive prior to Dussehra.
All petrol pumps have been asked to strictly adhere to the rules and orders issued by the state legal metrology and consumer affairs directorates for the larger interest of consumers.
“As part of the enforcement drive, raids were conducted at 132 petrol pumps in several districts across the state and irregularities were found in 26 petrol pumps,” informed controller legal metrology and director consumer affairs AK Bhuyan to this paper.
Of 26 petrol pumps, five are from Balasore, four each from Jajpur and Keonjhar, three from Koraput, two each from Baripada, Cuttack, and Rayagada and one each from Bhadrak, Angul, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda and Sambaplur, Bhuyan said, adding, among these, short delivery, a major offence, has been found in seven petrol pumps.
These seven petrol pumps are OPDC, Bahabalpur (IOCL) and Blue Moon Fuel at Odangi (BPCL) in Balasore; Joshi Enterprises at Lahada (IOCL), Joda Fuel Centre at Joda (BPCL) and Shri Jagannath Filling Station, Jharibahal (BPCL) in Keonjhar; and Taratarini Filling Station at Muniguda (IOCL) and Krishna Fuels at Muniguda (BPCL).
In the remaining 19 cases, irregularities related to non-verification of petrol dispensers and documents have been found, Bhuyan said.
The controller legal metrology-cum-consumer affairs director said a penalty of Rs 1.45 lakh was reovered from 26 petrol pumps including the seven pumps where short delivery was detected.
He said warning notices have been issued to these petrol pumps and if irregularities are found further cases will be registered against them in court.
Bhuyan further said that such surprise raids will continue in the coming days.
