Nicosia (Cyprus): A Harry Kane hat-trick saw Tottenham Hotspur notch their second win in as many games in Group H of the Champions League as they trounced Cypriot champions APOEL Nicosia 3-0 here Tuesday.
It turned out to be a good day for English clubs as Manchester City won their home game against Shakhtar Donetsk 2-0. Kevin De Bruyne’s perfectly-struck 48th minute goal and a late Raheem Sterling effort made it two in two for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Liverpool playing away to Spartak Moscow however, were unlucky not to win. They missed a plethora of chances and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
With Spurs missing the creative spark of both Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli, it was down to English striker Kane to pick up the slack, and despite a spirited effort from the APOEL, Spurs ran out easy winners.
Spurs went ahead in the 38th minute when Kane finished coolly from 18 yards after he was left unmarked while receiving a pass from Toby Alderweireld. He doubled the lead in the 62nd minute and the completed his hat-trick five minutes later by heading in a Kieran Trippier cross from the right.
The first half of the City-Donetsk game was a tad drab. However De Bruyne, had the home fans roaring immediately after the break when he unleashed a fine right-foot shot from the edge of the area after being well set-up by David Silva.
Meanwhile, Liverpool conceded a soft goal early on with Fernando scoring for Spartak in the 25th minute. However, eight minutes later Philippe Coutinho restored parity.
