Rourkela: A case of sensational double murder at Chhend Kalinga Vihar Cooperative Colony came to light when locals smelt foul smell coming out of a house on Plot No B-48.
After a 17-year-long live-in relationship, a man is said to have killed his lover and his own minor niece. Then he had allegedly locked the house from outside and went absconding.
On being informed, police along with forensic experts and sniffer dogs reached the spot and broke open the house in the presence of a magistrate.
The deceased were identified as Easter Lenka (45) and Prachi Sahu (17). Prachi, a plus two student, was staying with Easter. The woman was reportedly killed by smashing her head with an iron rod while the girl’s throat was slit with a sharp weapon.
After inspecting the crime scene, superintendent of police Umashanka Dash informed the media that the cause behind the double murder would only be known after the arrest of the accused Braja Kishore Sahu.
Easter had lost her husband 17 years ago. Though she has a daughter and a son, she had been living with Braja Kishore Sahu in a live-in relationship, the police official said.
Santosh Lenka, brother of Easter, reached the spot and said he had last spoken with his sister at 8.30 pm Monday. He also revealed that the house they had been staying in is in his sister’s name. Braja had been putting pressure on Easter to sell the house or get its ownership transferred to his name. Easter had not been in favour of both the proposals, leading to frequent quarrels. The bodies were sent to the government hospital here for autopsy and investigation is on. PNN
