Sundargarh: The local police Saturday claimed to have busted a trafficking racket and rescued seven minor tribal girls from Delhi and Haryana respectively.
On the orders of Sundargarh SP Pinak Mishra, a special team went to Delhi for rescue operations. Following the complaint from a girl’s parents in Karadega under Lephripara police limits, a police team set off for Delhi, police said.
The three-member team, led by Talsara sub-inspector Mili Sahu, after a 12-day operation rescued seven girls safely and brought them back to Sundargarh, it was learnt. The girls were first produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) before handing over to their parents.
Among the rescued were also three boys who were engaged at a poultry farm in Haryana. The girls were engaged as domestic helps in Delhi. They were offered high salaries with free food and accommodation by middlepersons, who in turn sold them in Delhi and Haryana.
According to the girl’s family, she was engaged as a maid at a house in Delhi. The employers reportedly made her do all the household chores and inflicted mental and physical torture on her. The matter came to the fore when the girl informed her parent’s about her plight.
The minors were not even given proper food, the victims said. They were made to toil extra hours without rest. PNN
