Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance Department Tuesday arrested a former secretary of a cooperative society for allegedly misappropriating public funds amounting to Rs 21.28 lakh, officials said.
During investigation, the department found that the accused collected loan repayment funds directly from various borrower members (loanees) of the Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society (PACS), Banki, it said in a statement.
“He misappropriated society funds by systematically manipulating official accounting registers and fabricating collection figures,” it said.
A case has been registered at Cuttack vigilance police station against the accused, and further investigation is under progress, the statement added.
