Debagada: A 38-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping a seven-year-old girl in Kundheigola police station area of Debagada district, police said Monday.
The accused, identified as Surendra Biswal alias Suren, son of Pramod Biswal of Khairapali village, was produced before a court Monday and remanded to judicial custody after his bail plea was rejected.
The incident occurred July 23 around 8am when the accused allegedly entered the girl’s house and assaulted her while she was alone.
Her minor brother woke up after hearing her screams, following which the accused fled.
The family did not report the incident initially, allegedly due to fear of social stigma. Police said the accused had also threatened the family.
A written complaint was lodged Sunday leading to the arrest.
