Mumbai: The theatrical success of Mirzapur: The Movie has reportedly prompted Excel Entertainment to explore a second big-screen chapter of the popular crime franchise. As per reports, the Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal and Rasika Dugal-starrer has crossed Rs 184 crore at the domestic box office by Day 10 of its theatrical run.
As per reports, the makers are pleased with the film’s response and are considering taking the Mirzapur universe forward on the big screen. The cast, director Gurmmeet Singh and writer Puneet Krishna are expected to meet producers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani next week to discuss the franchise’s future.
However, Mirzapur: The Movie 2 has not been officially confirmed yet. As per reports, multiple ideas are being explored, with the team likely to proceed only if it finds a compelling story that justifies another theatrical release. The development comes as the fourth season of Mirzapur is already in development. As per reports, the makers had initially planned to focus on continuing the franchise through the series.
However, the film’s strong box-office performance has reportedly shown that audiences are willing to watch the franchise’s characters in cinemas as well. If a suitable storyline is finalised, the universe could continue across both streaming and theatrical formats.
