Bhubaneswar: Forest officials Wednesday tranquilised and treated an injured tusker in the Bharatpur forest after it was found struggling to walk with an injury to its left front leg.
According to reports, the elephant was spotted limping Monday, prompting the Chandaka Divisional Forest Officer to arrange immediate medical attention.
An eight-member team was formed for the operation, comprising the Chandaka DFO, assistant conservator of forests and ranger, along with veterinary teams from Nandankanan Zoological Park and the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT).
The tusker was tranquilised so that the veterinary team could examine its injured leg and provide treatment.
