Thuamul Rampur: National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has reportedly sought an action-taken report from the Ernakulam police commissioner within four weeks over the disappearance of a 22-year-old migrant worker from Odisha, who has been missing in Kerala since October 4 last year.
Ratha Goud, a resident of Ranidumer village under Thuamul Rampur block in Kalahandi district, had gone to Kerala as a migrant worker. He has remained untraced since his disappearance, with his family alleging that he may have been abducted.
The NHRC issued a notice to the Ernakulam district police commissioner after taking serious note of the case and directed the officer to conduct a detailed inquiry and submit a report on the action taken within four weeks.
The case was registered following a petition filed by human rights activist Dilip Kumar Das. The commission heard the matter October 15.
According to NHRC member Priyanka Kanungo, the commission expressed concern over the police response and alleged inaction in the matter.
The notice directs the concerned police commissioner to investigate the circumstances surrounding Goud’s disappearance and submit a detailed report within the stipulated four-week period.
