New Delhi: Lyricist-writer Manoj Muntashir Wednesday defended the songs he wrote for Adipurush amid comparisons with the upcoming Ramayana on social media, saying that while the 2023 film was terrible and its dialogues even worse, no one can question the quality of the tracks.
Adipurush, Om Raut’s much-panned film starring Prabhas, has resurfaced in online conversations with social media users drawing comparisons with Ramayana, the Ranbir Kapoor-led big-budget adaptation of the Hindu epic, which arrives in cinemas November 5.
The soundtrack of Ramayana, composed by Oscar-winning musicians A R Rahman and Hans Zimmer, was recently released and received mixed response from the audience.
In a post on X, Muntashir reacted to an online report claiming that the backlash over “Mangal Rang”, the new song of “Ramayana”, has reminded people of the stunts that were pulled in “Adipurush”.
“Manoj Muntashir-style stunt? … My brother, I wish my stunt had been repeated in the songs of the ‘Ramayana’. ‘Adipurush’ was a very bad film, the dialogues were even worse, but the songs-every child in the country sings them. Go to Ayodhya sometime, and you’ll hear nothing but ‘Adipurush’ songs playing in every alley,” he said.
Muntashir, who recently won the National Award for Best Lyricist for his work on the 2022 movie “Saina”, said he has repeatedly apologised for the mistakes he made with “Adipurush”.
“And forgiveness was granted, but don’t challenge the songs. There was no lack of devotion, dedication, or poetry in them. I didn’t write nursery rhymes for Ram, nor qawwalis. People ahead are wise; they know who’s worth what. Jai Shri Ram,” he said.
