Bhubaneswar, Jan 31: Sankalp Baliarsingh of St. Xavier’s High School, Kedargouri and Sovna Sonali Jena of DAV Public School, CDA emerged champions of the boys’ and the girls’ segments respectively in the State Schools’ chess championship, which concluded here Saturday.
Sankalp emerged champion with 5.5 points out of a possible six. Ashirwad Swain secured second position with a total of five points. Rudrakshya Parida also bagged the same point but had to be satisfied with the third place finish on the basis of tie-breaker system.
In the girls’ segment, Sovna took the top honours with 4.5 points. Sweata Senapati (four) was the runner-up while Akankshya Nayak (also four points) finished third.
