Cuttack: Expressing concern over the future of 96 students, who have enrolled themselves into Plus II fist year course in a private residential college in Bhubaneswar for 2017-18 academic year, the Orissa High Court (HC) Friday directed the Higher Education secretary to initiate measures and return the college leaving certificates (CLCs) as well as the admission fees of the students.
Justice Akshaya Kumar Rath has given the directive in response to a petition filed by the students of a private residential college in Tamando area Bhubaneswar.
The petitioners had informed the HC that even as the college did not have adequate infrastructure to offer accommodation, it had enrolled students from far flung areas after promising them of hostel facilities for 2017-18 sessions.
The most worrying fact was the absence of faculties. “After the session began, there was hardly any teaching faculty. This apart, due to poor accommodation, students from rural pockets found it tough to reside,” the petition said.
Observing that it may pose a setback to their career, the confused students initially approached the college authorities seeking justice. But, it did little. With no option, the aggrieved students approached the High Court seeking its intervention. Advocate Asish Mishra appeared on behalf of the petitioners.
