A day after release, Seashore chief held again

Dhenkanal police pick up Das from Jharpara home in connection with 3 more cases

Dhenkanal: Seashore Group CMD Prashant Das Saturday was arrested by Dhenkanal police from his residence at Jharpara in Bhubaneswar in connection with three chit fund cases against him, a day after his release from jail.
Das is accused of defrauding people of several lakhs of rupees by opening offices of Seashore Group companies in Dhenkanal and Angul districts. Das was released from jail Friday after he got bail in the other chit fund cases.
He was arrested by Dhenkanal Police based on a non-bailable warrant against him issued by the court of sub-divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM) in Dhenkanal February 5, 2016, said Superintendent of Police Basant Panigrahi.
The SP said a police team was sent to Bhubaneswar to arrest Das in connection with three cases lodged against him at the Town Police station in 2013. He has been accused of duping investors of about Rs 27 lakh in Dhenkanal
district.
“Das was arrested from his residence at Jharpara under Laxmisagar police limits in Bhubaneswar. He was brought over here and questioned in this connection. Later, he was produced in court from where he was remanded to judicial custody after his bail plea was rejected,” the SP said.
The district police have applied for five days of remand. The court will hear this Monday.
“I will move court for bail,” Das said, adding ‘I will ensure all the investors of Seashore get their money back.’
Das was first arrested by Crime Branch from Mumbai June 20, 2013 after the `500 crore Seashore Group chit fund scam surfaced. Later, the case was handed over to CBI which filed a charge sheet against Das after a probe.
His group opened two multi-purpose cooperative outlets in Dhenkanal and Angul in 2013 and lured people into investing in attractive schemes by promising high returns. The Dhenkanal office of the group functioned from Mahavir Bazaar while Das was its Chairman and Managing Director.
