Smartphones, which are an inseparable part of our daily lives now, have revolutionised the way we work, play and communicate with one another. Smartphones enable users to watch videos, play games, and participate in social media interactions. Many people these days also use their smartphones for a range of other activities such as banking and shopping or even simply surfing the Net. To make use of a smartphone’s full potential, we need to have some knowledge of the right apps.
Sunday POST interacted with a few techno-savvy people to find out about their use of the different kinds of apps available for download.
Technocrat Subarna Rout, who is a keen photographer, has a good camera. But Rout was not satisfied with the output of his camera and felt that the pictures he had clicked needed editing. While browsing through various apps, he found some good photo editing apps which could help him get photos of the desired clarity and quality. He said, “If you have a good smartphone, you can download a good photo editing tool and then you can display your photos on social media sites.” He has also been encouraged by the innumerable ‘likes’ he has been receiving for his photos on social media sites.
Health freak Jajati said that during the initial days of his workouts he was not very punctual, but on a friend’s suggestion he started using a few exercise apps which keep track of his timings and constantly send messages regarding “Dos & Don’ts” to better maintain his health.
“If you keep a mobile in your pocket and start exercising, then it will give the amount of calories you need to burn by keeping track of your pulse rate and heartbeat. I find this encourages me to work harder to achieve my health goals,” he points out.
High school student Abhishek, who aspires to be an engineer, said, “I love to use my mom’s phone a lot for playing games, but my uncle advised me to use it in a better and more useful way. I downloaded some apps that gave me ideas on how to solve problems in physics and chemistry in multiple ways and mathematical formulas which will help me prepare for engineering entrance exams. People say mobiles have an adverse impact on studies, but if we use it wisely we can derive the right benefits. ”
Some new apps also play a vital role in providing access to computers as we use mobiles for remote access to different systems simultaneously, says Mahesh, an IT engineer who currently works with a reputed company in network management. “It’s very easy. We just need to download the apps and synchronise the PC with it either through a cable or Wi-Fi and then we can access the system without any hassle. Also there are some apps which turn your mobile into a mouse for the computer. We can use the display of the mobile as touchpad for the computer, which is very useful during seminars or presentations.
