Bhubaneswar, March 2: Pradosh Swain, a former employee of the Orissa State Museum and Rajesh Nayak, an artist who ‘loves’ to draw, but is not a professional, came together to showcase their paintings at an exhibition titled ‘Replay’, held at the Orissa Modern Art Gallery in the city, Monday. More than 40 drawings and paintings of the duo were exhibited. The objective of the painters was to promote art among people.
Pradosh has done his diploma in photography from College of Education and Technology, Bhubaneswar. Before being a painter, he used to work at the State Museum here in the capital. As he was passionate about painting, he left his job and shifted to Delhi to learn painting and make it his profession. He specialises in landscapes and promotes environmental issues.
“I used to feel confined while working here in the museum as an employee. I had to make my career in art; therefore, I left city and shifted to Delhi. Now I work there as a freelance artist and I am satisfied with it,” said Pradosh.
“Those who are passionate about painting must visit some metro cities such as Delhi or Mumbai once or twice in a year in order to get more knowledge. In Orissa artists may feel cramped, like I did,” added Pradosh.
Rajesh however, specialises in pen-ink and graphic design. He is not a professional artists but he draws as he loves to. “I am taking part in this exhibition along with Pradosh as I love to draw. I never wanted to make painting my career,” said Nayak.
Former Indian ambassador Abasara Behuria and Padma Shree Prafulla Kar inaugurated the exhibition. As many as 200 people visited the Gallery, Monday. The exhibition will go on till March 4.
