Bhubaneswar: In a bone-chilling incident, the 12-year-old son of a top police official was found hanging from a ceiling fan of his official’s quarters under Nayapalli Police station limits here.
The incident shocked the police hierarchy including the denizens of the Capital city who woke up to the sad news Saturday morning.
The deceased, identified as Ayush Satpathy, was the son of Assistant Commissioner of Police Sanjeev Satpathy, who is in-charge of the special squad of the Commissionerate Police.
Ayush, a student of Class VII in a private English medium school in the city, was reported to have taken the extreme step late Saturday when his sister was studying in an adjacent room. His mother was watching TV in her room and the ACP was away when the incident took place. The deceased’s sister who spotted him hanging informed her father about the incident. Later, Ayush was rushed to Capital Hospital where doctor’s declared him ‘brought dead’.
However, according to some sources, Ayush’s postmortem was skipped. But IIC of Nayapalli Police station Umakanta Pradhan rubbished such charges. He informed OrissaPOST that all the formalities have been completed.
The family sources said Ayush was fine Saturday night, but the exact reason why the minor boy resorted to the extreme step, is yet to be ascertained.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Anup Sahu along with other top police officials visited the spot. Nayapalli Police initiated an investigation after registering an unnatural death case (6/19). The police accompanied by a forensic team arrived at Satpathy’s residence for investigation.
Police have also seized a mobile phone which was being used by the minor boy constantly “neglecting his studies”, said the sources, adding his phone was also snatched away by his parents.
Meanwhile, Nayapalli Police station IIC told OrissaPOST, “We received the news about 12.30 am and rushed to the Capital Hospital. As per initial probe, it was revealed that Ayush was upset as he had been chided by his parents for his unsatisfactory performance at school.”
