Activist moves OHRC seeking CB probe into Niharika murder

Bhubaneswar:  Human rights activist Pradipta Nayak Thursday moved Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) seeking a Crime Branch probe into the murder case of nurse Niharika Patra.

According to the petition, the accused Kishore Aanchal along with his friend gang raped the victim and murdered her in a pre-planned manner before dumping the body on Biluakhai river banks under Biridi police limits.

The petitioner has accused that the Commissionerate Police Bhubaneswar-Cuttack did not take any concrete step to find the victim when a missing report was filed by her family members.

In his prayer, Nayak has requested the Commission to recommend an investigation by Crime Branch or the Additional DGP of Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC) and arrest of all the accused along with submission of the report at the earliest.

Besides, the petitioner has requested the Commission for a recommendation to the government to pay the kins of the victim a compensation of Rs 10 lakh since she was the sole earning member of her family.
