Bhubaneswar, March 30: A tribute to the ‘Guru Shishya parampara’, a tradition deeply intertwined with the cultural history of our subcontinent, was organised by Lasyakala Dance Academy at Rabindra Mandap Monday.
Aptly titled Aekalavya, the programme saw the participation of several prominent classical dancers from Orissa and other parts of the country. Classical forms of dance like Odissi, Bharatnatyam and Kuchipudi were performed at the event.
Saswat Joshi, Odissi dancer and organiser of the programme, said the programme was meant to inspire classical dancers to greater heights. “Classical dance is deeply rooted in spirituality. It has its birthplace in our land and is famous all over the world. However, classical dance is facing a slow death in the very country of its birth due to the advent of western dance and western culture,” Joshi said. “So on the eve of Utkal Diwas, we have organised this dance programme in order to felicitate our classical dancers for their contribution,” Joshi added.
Arupa Gayatree and Sridutta Bholo were felicitated for their contributions towards popularising Odissi dance in India and abroad.
Several famous Ollywood actors were among the audience gathered to witness the programme.
