Berhampur: “Stop racist attacks on Africans in India” is the appeal of a Kenyan national, who is on a countrywide bicycle journey.
With the message of peace and a voice against racism, Peter Ngugi reached here Tuesday during the course of his journey.
Peter began his journey from Shillong November 1 and it will culminate at Kanyakumari.
Inspired by famous movie ‘3 Idiots’, Peter came to India June 14, 2013 to pursue a computer programming course.
He got admitted as a computer science student in a Tamil Nadu institution but soon dropped out to explore India and its diverse culture. Saddened by an incident wherein Africans were assaulted by mobs in Noida, Peter decided to do his bit to stop racism.
It was reported in media that the assault was the fallout of a teenager’s death due to suspected drug overdose. However, Peter was deeply moved by the attack and decided to take up the challenge to stop such incidents in future.
It was then he decided to take his passion for cycling as a platform to create awareness among people. He formed ‘Indo-African Union Youth Committee’ and is the president of the outfit.
By now Peter has covered places like Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata and Bhubaneswar as part of his journey. He was received by locals here whole-heartedly.
“I’m highly impressed with the culture of Orissa. Guests are equivalent to Gods here,” Peter said, adding whichever place he visited in the country, he received a warm welcome by locals. PNN
