Bhubaneswar: Most parts of Orissa including the state capital felt tremors following a powerful quake that rocked Nepal at 12:35 pm Tuesday. The Bhubaneswar meteorological centre recorded the intensity in Orissa at 2.0. The tremors were reportedly felt in Keonjhar, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Ganjam, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Sonepur and a few other places. “The epicenter of the great earthquake was located 825 km from Bhubaneswar. The tremors were felt in the city and a few other parts of the state at 12:37 pm Tuesday with an intensity of 2.0,” said Met director Sarat Sahu. Citizens of the capital city felt the tremor and rushed out of their buildings. This is the second time in 17 days when such tremors were felt by the citizens here. “The vibration was mild and they occurred for a few seconds. The minute, I realise that it is an earthquake, I rushed out in panic,” said Monalisha Rath, a resident of Rasulgarh.
Panic gripped people of Koida and Tensa regions of Sundargarh district as the ground shook for few seconds at about 12.40 pm Tuesday. People came out of their houses as the vibration was felt thrice with the shaking of the furniture. Met officials also warned that earthquakes of high magnitude are followed by mild tremors in trailing days in a radius of 1,000 km of the epicenter.
