Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Sunday launched the National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP) and laid the foundation of several infrastructure projects of Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT).
Congratulating OUAT for its research in agricultural education and its diverse influence, Patnaik advised the authorities to maintain the growth trajectory and develop the university as a role model for national and international institutions.
The foundation stones for infrastructure projects such as teaching complex, College of Agriculture at Chiplima; a laboratory complex, College of Horticulture at Chiplima; smart classroom complex, College of Basic Sciences and Humanities (CBS & H), Bhubaneswar; laboratory complex at College of Fisheries at Rangeilunda near Gopalpur; Geo-Spatial Technology Centre, at CAET in Bhubaneswar; High-Tech Agri-Machine Centre, CAET; workshop for Straw Chopper-cum-Seeder, CAET; godown, processing unit and threshing floor, CPR, Berhampur; seed godown and processing facility at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Bargarh and seed godown and processing facility at KVK, Deogarh were laid on the occasion.
The Chief Minister also inaugurated some infrastructure facilities like model examination hall, College of Agriculture, Bhubaneswar, and others. Patnaik also launched the National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP) titled “Branding the University for Excellence and Equity in Agricultural Education Producing Skill Graduates of Enhanced Employability and Entrepreneurship” which will be implemented by OUAT on a competitive basis.
This project aims to create a student-centric learning system; enhance faculty competency and make academic governance more efficient to achieve excellence in education.
Agriculture Minister Pradeep Maharathy appreciated the efforts of OUAT in farm development and research in the state. New Delhi-based ICAR deputy director general (Education) NS Rathore lauded the efforts of scientists and teaching staff of the university. The university is now considered one of the top five agriculture varsities in the country, he said.
