Kamakhyanagar: A sick female elephant that was undergoing treatment succumbed to its illness at Khairamunda rural forest under Ghagramunda forest beat and Mahabirod forest range in Dhenkanal forest division, Thursday. Forest officials found out that the animal was suffering from some disease, Wednesday.
Later, veterinarian Pradip Kumar Singh was rushed in from Angul and treatment started. However, the pachyderm died Thursday despite all efforts by the veterinarian to cure it. Mahabirod ranger Haresh Chadra Kishan said a post-mortem was conducted on the carcass and a probe has been launched to ascertain the actual reason behind the elephant’s death.
