Chhatrapur: Ganjam collector Premchandra Choudhury Tuesday asked officials to complete installation of toilets in all government schools of the district by December end.
The collector set the deadline while attending a review meeting of District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) at the conference hall here.
Following the block wise assessment, he also directed the officers to ensure that no house is left without a toilet. The officers were asked to meet the families personally which have received work orders but are yet to begin toilet construction work.
These days, block officials are reaching villages in the wee hours and offering roses to the people whom they find going for open defecation. The collector asked the officers to intensify the drive and hold awareness programmes in more and more villages over the issue.
Choudhury also reviewed the ongoing Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in the district. He asked the BDOs and SDOs to achieve the target set by the government.
It was revealed in the meeting that 4,96,544 families were issued job cards under the scheme while 1,59,971 of them had asked for jobs. However, only 12,901 families could be offered jobs. Similarly, the district administration could provide 100-days of work to only 2,037 families of the district, it was learnt.
Work of 14,206 projects has been completed while 33,764 projects are underway. Work on 14,019 projects is yet to begin in the district.
