post news network, Bhubaneswar, July 8: The three-day all women’s art camp, organised by the Lalit Kala Akademi in association with the Department of culture, at the Pantha Nivas, here, concluded Wednesday.
The art camp ended with the exhibition of all the paintings made by the 28 artists, who came from different parts of the country. Tourism minister, Ashok Chandra Panda, inaugurated the exhibition, which was also attended by the tourism secretary Arvind Padhee.
All the artists came up with beautiful paintings on Shrigundicha, the theme of the camp. The paintings stole the heart of everyone present.
Appreciating the works of the artists, Ashok Panda said, “All the paintings exhibited are really beautiful. The inspiration they got from the Lord and the way they have portrayed the ceremony is incredible. We did organise workshop and art camp based on Nabakalebara earlier, but this camp is the first of its kind because it promoted only the women artists”.
“Though artists should not be categorised by the gender, but we feel happy that we have conducted an all women artists’ camp on Nabakalebara. The outcome of the camp is astonishing. We are planning to include all the paintings in a booklet to be made on the occasion of the Nabakalebara, which will be distributed among the guests present in events related to the Nabakalebara,” said Arvind Padhee.
R Balakrishna, finance secretary of the state government, Shiva Panigrahi, president, Lalit Kala Akademi, DN Rao, vice president, Lalit Kala Akademi, Jyotimai Mohanty, member of the Akademi, were among the others who spoke on the occasion.
Nibedita Pattnaik, an artist who came all the way from Delhi has made a beautiful painting in which Subhadra represents women empowerment. The theme of the painting is the commercialisation of the Lord. “I used Subhadra, instead of Lord Jaggannath, who for me is the symbol women empowerment. I portrayed her as coming out of a gift box in a new avatar that symbolises the emergence of the new from the old. I have also depicted the daily work done by a woman, which defines her too.”
