Bhubaneswar, September 2: Despite subdued pricing environment, aluminium production in the country is likely to rise on the back of increased capacity of domestic manufacturers.
“Indian aluminium production is expected to rise further in 2015-16, as the operating capacity of primary producers increases further,” the National Aluminium Company Ltd (NALCO) said in its annual report.
It, however said that availability of coal and coal prices would be major limiting factors in this regard. “Production level of primary aluminium in the country is estimated to reach around 2.4-2.5 million tonne in 2015-16,” the report said.
During the last financial year, total domestic production of aluminium metal during FY15 grew by 18.3 per cent y-o-y from 1.73 million tonne in 2013-14 to 2.05 million tonne in 2014-15. “Total domestic consumption of primary metal during 2014-15 remained practically flat with respect to 2013-14 levels at 1.58 million tonne,” it said adding that primary aluminium exports by Indian producers registered an impressive 58 per cent growth from 0.49 million tonne in 2013-14 to 0.77 million tonne in 2015-16.
