post news network, Bhubaneswar, May 15: The department of higher education celebrated its 24th annual function which much pomp and gaiety at the Rabindra Mandap here Friday.
A drama titled ‘Luhare Livila Laxman Gara’ was performed during the function. It is written by Basanta Mohanty and directed by Dr Banabihari Mohapatra. Around 16 employees of the higher education department gave a stunning performance in the play, which was appreciated by the audience.
Speaking about the progress made in the field of education in the state, higher education minister Pradeep Kumar Panigrahy said, “The progress of education in the state is essential as it would help the young generation progress and that in turn would help the state to progress.” Panigrahy attended the event as the chief guest. Principal secretary, Gagan Dhal, who attended the programme as the guest of honour also spoke on the education scenario prevailing in the state and emphasised that contribution from everyone was essential for the development of education in the state.
The annual magazine of the cultural association of the department, ‘Sankhadhwani’, was also released by the distinguished guests during the occasion.
“The story of the drama was very good and the actors who have acted in the drama have done justice to the characters they were playing. The audience never felt that it was being performed by the employees of the department, who are not professional artistes. Such events by the department would help employees refresh themselves and would boost their energy,” said Sanghamitra Mohanty, a member of the audience.
