Bhubaneswar, April 17: Former minister and senior BJD leader Anand Acharya died at a private hospital here Friday, family sources said.
Acharya (77), was elected to the state legislative Assembly thrice from Baragarh segment in western region of the state. He was elected as a BJD candidate in 1998, 2000 and 2004 and was a minister from 2000-2004.
Born on February, 1938 at Bargarh, Anand was the son of Late Padmashree Krutartha Acharya.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, I &PR and Health Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, Food Supply and Consumer Welfare minister Sanjay Das Burma, Tourism Minister Ashok Chandra Panda and Law minister Arun Sahu along with other BJD leaders paid tributes to Acharya at the hospital.
Acharya had also served as president of Sambalpur District Central Cooperative Bank during 1994-96, president of Sambalpuri Bastralaya Handloom Cooperative Societies Ltd from 1979 to 1981 and president of Orissaa Weavers` Cooperative Spinning Mills Ltd from 1994 to 1996.
