Cuttack, December 18: Anil Gouda and Loveleen Patnaik of Orissa clinched bronze medals in their respective categories on the third day of the National Taekwondo Championships at the Jawaharlal Indoor Stadium here Friday.
In the men’s junior event Anil finished third behind Ch Yaikhomba Meitei of Manipur and Raghav Patel of Maharashtra. In the women’s junior event, Loveleen finished behind S Tina of Manipur and Himani Mehra of Delhi.
Earlier Alisha Patnaik had also won a bronze for the state.
Top players win
Top players won their first round matches easily on the inaugural day of the Kendrapara Open Chess tournament at Kendrapara here Friday.
After the completion of the first round, 22 players are leading the pack with two points each. They are Soumyaranjan Mishra, Smaraki Mohanty, Satyabrata Kar, Kshirod Samal, Prafulla Kumar Sahoo, Rajesh Nayak, GC Mohapatra, Subhasis Barik, Bhabesh Mohanty, Dasarathi Sahoo, Biswarupa Chol, Vaibhvab Mishra, Sanjeeban Nayak, Priyabrata Samanta Singh, Narayan Das, Shreya Mohanty, Gitashree Biswal, S Dharanidhar and Lochan Kumar Das.
Squads selected
Both men’s and the women’s teams of Bhubaneswar have been selected for the State Basketball Championships at Cuttack, December 20-23.
The squads: (Men): Bineet Kumar Minz, Satyakam Yadav, Rudra Kanta Sahoo, Bibhisana Mallick,Abhisek Mishra, Jeet Lakra, Om Prakash Mallick, Surya Ranjan Sahoo. (Women): Sushree Sangita Rout, Urbasi Mallik, Jayashree Baskey, Itishree Kujjur, Suvangi Sahoo, Sivani Nayak, Rajashree Swain, Saraswati Behera, Papali Patra.
