Bhubaneswar: Animated movies or series are something that people of all age groups can enjoy. Hollywood has produced some of the best animated movies that we love to watch time and again. After animation series made by China, Japan, and Korea started coming on television and in cinemas, animation became more popular.
But in India, animation making is still in its infancy, and few
animated movies or series are made; some musicians in the Hindi film industry have used animation in their videos, but it is yet to gain popularity in other parts of the country.
Under the circumstances, a few musicians from the city have come up with the unique idea of making an Oriya animated music video with the aim to change the Oriya music industry.
Siddharth Shankar and Ashok Purohit, who had formed the group ‘Odibeats’ in 2015, have made the animated music video named ‘Falling in Love’, portions of which have been uploaded on YouTube and have gone nearly viral.
Siddharth spoke to
Orissa POST about the video. “Little has been done in animation in the state. The main reason why I created an animated video is that normal videos can be unsuitable for children but not animations. Animations can be watched by everyone as there is no vulgarity. In other states animation has been used to some extent in various forms; so we thought why not do something in animation in Oriya. This is the first time we are using animation in a music video,” he said.
The musician says ‘Falling in Love’ is about confused love. “Through animation we are going to present the story. The lyrics have been penned by Punyotoya Singh and me, and Ashok sang the song. Susanta Kumar Prusty is the producer of the vedio. Raag Yaman Kalyan and raag Begshri have been used in the compositions. We used the raags so that the songs would touch the hearts of the listeners,” he added.
The lyrics of the video have been composed in English, Oriya and Hindi and the duration of the music video is five minutes. “We have used English, Oriya and Hindi for the songs and the reason for using a mix of languages for the lyrics is to attract listeners from other parts of the country and abroad. There are many Oriyas who resides outside the country, so we came up with the idea to attract the NRI listeners and young masses who do not love to listen Oriya music,” Siddharth said.
Work on the entire video is almost completed and the full version is to be released in a few weeks. “The technical part has been mostly completed in Bangalore, only a few things remain which would be completed soon,” he added.
The good response the video on YouTube has received has prompted the makers to also plan an album including more songs. “We released a small making-of ‘Falling in Love’ video on YouTube February 29 and within 6 days of release, it has been viewed by more than 20,000 people. We received a good response from viewers from abroad,” he said.
At present the video is not accessible on YouTube as it has been “removed due to technical problems”. “Very soon we will upload the full music video,” Siddharth said.
