Kalampur/Mandal: A farmer committed suicide by hanging reportedly due to crop loss and debt burden at Sanakutru under Jaipatna police limits in Kalahandi district Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Binod Bihari Majhi (30), son of Lavanya Majhi. Police sent the body for post-mortem and started an investigation. The farmer’s elder brother Upendra and uncle Tarun Majhi claimed that he was under stress after his crops in five acres of land withered following pest attack.
He had borrowed heavily from cooperative societies and private moneylenders. Binod could no longer take the strain and ended his life by hanging in a mango orchard in the village.
