Bhubaneswar, August 20: “Se Dinu Basichhi Neelanai Kule Tumari Bata Chahin, Pheriba Ki Kebe He Nila Nayana Chhota Eka Bheta Paain. . . ” a poem in ‘Neelafenila’ begins. The collection of poems by Bibhuti Panigrahi dedicated to love was released at Red Cross Bhawan, Saturday.
The book release function was organised by Katha Kabita Academy.
“Everyone loves, and love involves happiness as well as pain, separation and union. All these elements can also be seen in my creations. Here the protagonist waits for his loved one, who has promised to return soon.”
The 80-page book includes 70 poems, each of which describes a man’s love for a woman. According to the poet, the title of the collection was significant. “Many suggested different names but these were all common and familiar to readers. So I thought I would use this title. ‘neela’ means ‘blue’ and ‘fenali’ means foam. Blue symbolises love.”
The 61-year-old retired banker returned to writing poems eight years back. His wife Pushpalata vouches for the romantic in Bibhuti. “He is a very romantic person. He used to write short poems as a youngster but had to discontinue it. Eight years ago, he started writing again. He chooses his words carefully. I love his work,” she says.
Bibhuti has already published anthologies ‘Rootu Arootu’, ‘Meru Meghara Maya’, ‘Asta Nadeera Majhi’, ‘Ago Madhusala’ and ‘Nibida Nirbaha’.
Neelafenila, his sixth work, has been published by Padatika, Cuttack, and is priced at `100. Poets Ashok Mohanty, Khirod Parida, Banoj Tripathy and Bipin Mohanty, besides Professors Adikanda Sahoo and Geetashree Priyambada attended the function.
“The way the writer has expressed emotions touches the heart. The last four poems narrate the frustration a lover who waits for his love in vain. The protagonist assures his heart with many statements,” Khirod said of the book.
Bibhuti is currently working on another poem which is Krishna’s narrative of his life from the deathbed. The book ‘Katha Katha: Kabita Kabita’ was also launched at the event.
