BHUBANESWAR: Craftswoman Kanaklata Das and group created sculptures on tribal goddess Tusu and Lord Shiva from clay and water collected from Triveni Ghat for ‘Jaukandhei Bahagara’ in Balasore Sunday.
The ritual was kick started on the occasion of auspicious Ram Navami. One of the craftswoman Sabita Dei said, “Making these Lacquer dolls is not easy. It requires a lot of attention and hard work. We believe that these dolls have a soul.”
Triveni Ghat is a point of confluence of three rivers: Budhabalanga, Sona and Gangahar. The ritual will continue till Chandan Purnima which falls May 12 2019.
This time, silver and gold foils were used to ornament the dolls. The tourism department has also been invited to make the ceremony more attractive. Bhograi Aloo dum, Posto, Gaja and Feni are the delicacies which would be offered on the day of Jau-Kandhei Bahaghar.
