Cuttack, Jan 18: Ashirwad Swain and Nilsu Patnaik emerged champions in the senior and junior categories of the Cuttack District Chess Championships, which concluded at the Barabati Stadium Indoor hall here Monday. Asirwad and Nilsu took the top honours with 7.5 points each.
In the senior category, Smaraki Mohanty also got 7.5 points, but she had to be satisfied with second position on the basis of a poor tie-breaker score. Johnson Sahoo finished third with six points. Rabindra Kumar Ojha secured the fourth position.
In the junior category, Arnav Aryan Samantray finished runner-up with 6.5 points. Vaibhav Singh and Subham Shreyash Patnaik also bagged same number of points. But they secured the third and the fourth positions respectively on the basis of their tie-breaker scores.
Maharashtra triumph
Maharashtra thrashed Uttarakhand 17-0 in a match of the Sub-Junior Girls’ National Football Championships at the Barabati Stadium here Monday.
The match between Delhi and Chhattisgarh ended in a 1-1 draw. Hosts Orissa will start their campaign against Gujarat Monday.

A 20-member Orissa team was selected by Football Association of Orissa (FAO), Monday for the ongoing National Sub-Junior Girls’ Football Championship here.
