Mumbai: Mahendra Singh Dhoni was back at his ‘spiritual home’ Chennai Super Kings (CSK) while Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) retained India captain Virat Kohli during the much-publicised yet predictable IPL retentions announced here Thursday evening.
Mumbai Indians (MI) had the league’s most successful captain Rohit Sharma back in their stable as most of the retentions happened on expected lines. However, instead of Krunal Pandya, they have decided to retain Jasprit Bumrah.
Current Australia skipper Steve Smith was Rajasthan Royals (RR) only pick while his deputy David Warner remains with Sunrisers Hyderabad along with pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) declared their intention to retain West Indians Sunil Narine and Andre Russell while Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) had left-arm spinner Axar Patel in their ranks.
Notable players who will go back to the auction pool include Gautam Gambhir (KKR), Ravichandran Ashwin (CSK), Glenn Maxwell (KXIP) and Shikhar Dhawan (SRH)
