Bhubaneswar, Nov 24: The total assets of ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has risen by 7,721 per cent between 2005 and 2016, Orissa Election Watch (OEW), a non-governmental organisation, reported Friday. The report is based on an analysis of poll affidavits filed by the ruling party before the Election Commission of India (ECI).
OEW has reported that the total assets of the party have grown from Rs24 lakh in 2005-06 to Rs18.77crore in 2015-16.
Similarly, liabilities of the party, including loans, have increased by 10,200 per cent between 2005-06 and 2015-16. The liabilities of the BJD till 2005-06 amounted to Rs20,000, which increased to Rs20.6 lakh by 2015-16, the OEW report said.
The poll affidavits of the ruling party did not disclose loans, advances, Tax Deduction at Source (TDS) or investment. The NGO has prepared the report based on IT returns of BJD for five years which are available with the ECI for the 11 years between FY 2005-06 and 2015-16.
OEW further said the total capital/reserve fund set aside by the party during 2005-06 was Rs23.9 lakh, while it rose to Rs18.564 crore for 2015-16. Thus, the reserve funds of the party during the 10 years increased by 7,667 per cent.
