Bhubaneswar: Asutosh Das and Satirtha Patnaik of Odisha defeated statemates Abhishek Mohapatra and Amrutjay Mohanty 6-3, 6-3 in straight sets to clinch the doubles title of Gurukul AITA-OTA 50k Men’s Ranking tennis tournament at the Gurukul tennis complex here, Thursday.
It was quite an easy and dominating outing for Asutosh and Satirtha as their opponents hardly offered any resistance. After a dominating display throughout the first set, they continued their fearless display in the second set too to clinch the crown.
In the singles, Chinmay Pradhan of Odisha entered the finals defeating Gujarat’s Yugantan Vyas 6-2, 6-2 in straight sets. Chinmay will meet Tamil Nadu’s Arjun Mahadevan in the final.
SSC, GU script wins
Sahid Sporting Club (SSC) and Green Club registered comprehensive victories over their respective opponents at the BOSE cricket ground in Cuttack, Thursday.
SSC defeated Pragati Sporting by five wickets. Batting first, Pragati put up 120/9 in their 20 overs. Tukuna Sahu (30, 19b) was the highest scorer for Pragati. Badal Bhoi (4/25) was the wrecker-in-chief for SSC.
In reply, SSC overhauled the target with two balls to spare losing five wickets in process with Suvam Satrujeet (29, 26b) being the top scorer. Tukuna (2/20) was the pick of the bowlers for SSC.
In the other match of the day, Green Club rode on a whirlwind knock from BBCC Mohapatra (47, 20) to post a challenging 156/9 against Mukteswar Circket Club (MCC). Pratik Das (3/34) was the pick of the bowlers for MCC. In reply MCC were restricted to 148/7. Sandeep Patnaik (59, 42b) scored a half century for MCC. Prayash Satpathy (4/21) was the pick of the bowlers for Green Club.
