Nabrangpur: Two persons were beaten to death while five sustained grievous injuries in a group clash over a forest land at Baunsabeda village near Telgaon under Umarkote police limits in the district Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Phagun Bhatra and Balram Harijan. Gurubaru Bhatra, one of the injured, was admitted to Umarkote health centre, it was learnt.
According to sources, Balram cultivated his crops in a forest land. Meanwhile, another group of villagers prevented him from this and called out a village meeting in this regard. Balram was called to attend the meeting. However, the latter did not turn up. Later, Phagun Bhatra and Gurubaru Bhatra went to call Balram. In a fit of rage, Balram attacked the duo with an axe. Phagun died on the spot while Gurubaru sustained critical injuries after Balram also hacked him with the axe.
More than 200 people rushed to the spot and thrashed Balram leading to his death on the spot. Later, they ransacked Balram’s house and set it on fire.
Balram’s family members were also assumed to have been burnt alive, sources said. On learning the incident, additional tehsildar and IIC along with a police team reached the village and brought the situation under control.
